The Law Society of Brunei was invited and had the honour of attending the Opening of the Legal Year 2026 of Singapore from 11 to 12 January 2026. The ceremony marked the commencement of the new legal year and was attended by members of the judiciary, legal practitioners, and distinguished guests, including representatives from other jurisdictions. This year, Singapore also celebrates 200 years of the Second Charter of Justice which saw the establishment of Singapore’s legal system.
Further, the Singapore Law Society hosted a Presidents’ Roundtable with two sessions on the challenges with talent retention and skills gaps, and on a comparative study of current methods of billing clients and remuneration for legal services in various jurisdictions. The roundtable concluded with an informal networking session, which allowed for further conversations and the strengthening of professional ties.
